ARTS AND CULTURE

As stated in the Breede Valley’s vision, it is a place of excellence. The area boasts achievers in various areas, including the Arts – award-winning writers, poets, actors, painters, sculptors, comedians, singers. Several artists in the area share a close bond with the Hugo Naudé Art Centre and Little Theater in Russell Street, Worcester. Nearly nine years after the death of the famous painter, the centre was inheritance by the town, as the then City Council took it into possession on 28 May 1959, together with 53 paintings and etches housed within it. The dwelling was converted to an art centre. The open space alongside it, containing an old wine storage facility that was used as a work-studio by Hugo Naude, was also purchased by the then Hugo Naude Association. The wine storage building was later converted into a theater, which today is known as the Little Theater, where plays are regularly held. The current municipal council upgraded the Little Theater in 2012/13. The Hugo Naude Art Centre is currently getting a new layer of paint.
