The need has been identified to establish a recycling center where the community can extract valuable materials from the waste stream before the waste is transported to the licensed Breede Valley municipal landfill. The MRF, a materials recycling facility, is a specialised plant that receives aggregated recyclable waste, and through a combination of mechanical sorting and manual labor, recycles and prepares recyclable materials in dedicated streams for resale to manufacturers and end users who recycle products who use their manufacturing or industrial processes. The Breede Valley MRF opened its doors on 2 November 2020 and sorts and packs all recyclable products in the transparent recycling bags of certain areas and households in Worcester, Rawsonville and De Doorns. These recycling bags are picked up from residential areas on the day scheduled when garbage removal takes place in the area. A separate truck comes to load the bags. The service is provided to residential properties only. Businesses must provide recyclable materials themselves. The community is also encouraged to provide their own bags and shouldn’t just rely on the Municipality to provide the bags. We currently have 24 employees (EPWP employees) who have received the necessary training to enable them to do the job effectively.
