TARIFFS FOR RESIDENTIAL REFUSE REMOVAL

REFUSE REMOVAL: EXCEEDING ALLOWANCE

BVM recently notified residents about the fact that the tariff for domestic refuse removal includes one 240l wheelie bin OR three black bags (where a wheelie bin hasn’t been issued or has been stolen).
We explained that residents exceeding this allowance without paying for additional removal place an additional burden on the municipality’s resources. We notified residents that BVM would stop removing additional refuse left out for collection.
Since the notice mentioned above was sent out, we have been contacted by a few residents who complained that they keep sidewalks and open areas adjoining their homes clean, but we now refuse to remove the bags with the rubbish they collect on our behalf.
Our team at the Refuse Removal Section really appreciates the voluntary effort that some residents make to keep the area around their residences clean. We would like to encourage them to keep doing so and hope that others will join in the effort to keep our area clean.
We are compiling a register of the names and addresses of these volunteers to ensure that we remove the additional refuse they collect on our behalf. We request that anyone who is affected contact awehr@bvm.gov.za and copy pvanwyk@bvm.gov.za in the email, providing details of the situation. Mr Wehr will contact them all, ensure that the additional refuse collected on behalf of BVM is removed, and provide black bags for the purpose.
