As from Wednesday, 12 August 2020, members of the public can apply online for motor vehicle license renewals.

Important Notice
Notice – 90 days extension:
Due to lockdown restrictions level 5 and level 4, electronic motor vehicle license renewals have been backlogged from March 2020. We urge clients to be patient during this time as services are not back to 100% during lockdown restrictions level 3.

  • Keep in mind that ALL licences that has expired 26 March 2020 – 31 May 2020 is still valid and has been extended for 90 days from 01 June 2020 – 31 August 2020.
  • Motor Trade Licences that expired during the period that commenced from 26 March 2020 up to and include 31 May 2020 are deemed to be valid and are extended for a further grace period ending on 30 November 2020

Follow these three (3) easy steps to renew your motor vehicle licence:


Step 1: Complete required forms
If no MVLX 2 was received via post, an ALV form must be downloaded here

Private/ User
Documents needed for Renewal of Licence:
• Proof of address not older than 3 months (Utility Bill / Bank statement/ Lease Document)
• Acceptable Identification such as Copy of ID, Temporary ID, Passport etc..

Documents needed for Renewal of Licence:
• Proof of address not older than 3 months (Utility Bill / Bank statement).
• Copy of Proxy’s ID or Representative’s Copy of ID
• CK 1 & 2 Documents and Business Registration certificate (BRNC).

Please take into consideration that your EFT payment could take four (4) working days to reflect if you are not making an immediate inter-bank clearing in real time on banks. Payment must be made before 18th of each month to prevent extra cost.


Step 3: Forward information
To finalise the renewal process email the following information to

  • Deposit Slip or Proof of Payment.
  • Completed/signed ALV form by the registered owner and copy of registered owner’s ID document.
  • Vehicles registered under a business name – CK1, CK2 and business registration certificate and provide copy of proxy’s ID document.
  • Proof of address (utility bill or bank statement. Both documents must not be older than 3 months).
  • Your contact details and telephone number in case of any additional enquiries.

Take Note: Transaction cannot be processed if all above mentioned documents are not submitted.
If more than one vehicle needs to be licenced, request a R114 report


The license disc can be collected at:

  • Worcester: BVM Traffic Head Office, Robertson drive, Worcester.
  • De Doorns: BVM Traffic Dept, Touwsriver may also be collected at De Doorns.

Please note that you will be notified telephonically for collection.

If someone else renews your license on your behalf, you need to make sure that they have:

  • A letter giving them permission to renew the license.
  • A copy of your ID and their own ID.
  • The appropriate fees.
